DUBLIN, Ireland: Ireland's Electricity Supply Board, ESB, will jointly develop an offshore wind farm with Denmark's Orsted, according to a statement released following the signing of an agreement.
The agreement calls for the building of a series of offshore wind farms, with Orsted being a 50 percent partner in a group of offshore wind projects.
Plans call for the eventual delivery of up to 5 gigawatts of renewable energy and renewable hydrogen projects.
The Government has set a goal of generating 80 percent of Ireland's State electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Offshore wind projects are expected to generate 5 GW of power by 2030, the Minister for Enterprise, Simon Coveney, was quoted as saying, as reported by Reuters.
Meanwhile, Ireland's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that Ireland is on schedule to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29 per cent from 2018 levels by 2030. However, this will remain short of the legally-binding 51 percent target set earlier.
"Ireland will miss its 2030 climate targets, unless all sectors of the economy deliver emission reductions in the short term and sustain this delivery into the future," said EPA director-general Laura Burke, as reported by breakingnews.ie.
